Data Science and Analytics Webinar Series LaunchedThe HKUST Big Data Institute (BDI) and HKUST Guangzhou Data Science and Analytics Thrust have jointly launched the “Data Science and Analytics Webinar Series” starting from February 2021. This webinar series will bring together renowned scholars from world-class universities as well as technology leaders and experts from leading enterprises to present on the cutting edge technology development in the areas of big data, data science and analytics. Invited speakers will also share their far-reaching research insights and professional practice and experience in the industry, providing meaningful exchange with students, faculty, and the industry practitioners.
The first webinar took place on 1 February 2021 and was inaugurated by Prof. C Mohan, Shaw Visiting Professor (National University of Singapore), Distinguished Visiting Professor (Tsinghua University, China) & Consultant (Microsoft, USA), Advisor (Tamil Nadu e-Governance Agency & Kerala Blockchain Academy, India), Retired IBM Fellow (IBM Research, USA). In this webinar, Prof. Mohan delivered a presentation titled “State of Permissionless and Permissioned Blockchains: Myths and Reality”. He introduced the basics of blockchain technology and focused discussing the permissioned or private blockchain systems. Some use-case scenarios and applications of permissioned blockchain systems in trade finance, food trust/safety, etc. were also shared with the audience. The webinar was successfully held together with HKUST Department of Computer Science and Engineering, and attracted over 170 participants.
