Secretary for Constitutional and Mainland Affairs visits BDIMr. Patrick NIP Tak-Kuen, JP, Secretary for Constitutional and Mainland Affairs of the HKSAR Government, visited HKUST Big Data Institute (BDI) on 28 December 2018 to know more about its latest R&D innovation in big data.
Mr. Nip was accompanied by, among other Government officials, Mr. Andy CHAN Shui Fu, JP, Under Secretary for Constitutional and Mainland Affairs, Mr. Fletch CHAN Wai Wai, Administrative Assistant to Secretary for Constitutional and Mainland Affairs, Miss Winnie TO Yuen Ping, Press Secretary to Secretary for Constitutional and Mainland Affairs, Mr. David CHIU, District Officer (Sai Kung), and Mr George NG Sze Fuk, GBS, JP, Chairman of Sai Kung District Council.
During the short visit, representative from BDI and Miss PENG Jingshu, PhD student, Department of Computer Science and Engineering, HKUST gave a general introduction of the Institute and showcased a number of latest R&D projects in big data, AI, and blockchain to the delegation. Mr. Nip and the delegation took great interest in the joint research projects with industrial partners and asked a number of questions.
Recently, HKUST officially signed agreements with Guangzhou Municipal Government and Guangzhou University to establish Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou) in Nansha. This marked an important milestone in collaboration between Hong Kong and the Mainland in driving innovation and nurturing technology talents. BDI strives to develop groundbreaking R&D in big data and transform its research achievements into industry applications.BDI will continue developing new technological solutions in areas such as big data, AI, machine learning, making significant impacts to the industry and bringing benefits to Hong Kong, Greater Bay Area, and the world.
