HKUST and Kyoto University Joint Symposium on Informatics

Co-organized by the HKUST Big Data Institute, the HKUST and Kyoto University Joint Symposium on Informatics was successfully held on 21 March 2024 in HKUST Clear Water Bay campus. The symposium brought together with the distinguished guests and speakers from Kyoto University who shared their insight on the Artificial Intelligence, Data Analytics and Mathematics.



Prof. WANG Yang, Associate Director of Big Data Institute gave an opening remark and welcomed participants. Prof. WANG highlighted the latest development on innovative technologies and research breakthroughs.



Prof. Tatsuya KAWAHARA, Former Dean, Graduate School of Informatics, Kyoto University gave an introduction of their school and research.



Prof. CHEN Qifeng, Assistant Professor, Department of Computer Science and Engineering, HKUST gave a keynote speech titled “The Recent Advancement in AI-driven Video Generation and Editing”.



Prof. Atsushi IGARASHI, Dean, Graduate School of Informatics, Kyoto University gave another keynote speech titled “A Type-Based Approach to Verification of Heap-Manipulating Programs”.



Prof. MA Xiaojuan, Associate Professor, Department of Computer Science and Engineering, HKUST delivered a presentation titled “Collaborative AI for Science: Supporting Stochastic Multi-criteria Decision Making in Scientific Research”.



Prof. Ken UMENO, Professor, Graduate School of Informatics, Kyoto University delivered a presentation titled " Chaotic Diffusion Model: Superefficiency and its Applications to Generative AI”.



Prof. YANG Can, Dr Tai-chin Lo Associate Professor of Science, Associate Professor, Department of Mathematics, HKUST delivered a presentation titled “Integrating Spatial and Single-cell Transcriptomics Data Using Deep Generative Models”.



Prof. Hiroshi FUJIWARA, Associate Professor, Graduate School of Informatics, Kyoto University delivered a presentation titled “Numerical Challenges in Inverse and Ill-posed Problems”.



The symposium has established a strong connection between the two universities. It was a day full of wonderful sharing on inspiring ideas.
