Webinar on Factors of Data Production and Cross-Border Finance

To promote knowledge exchange between academia and industry and broaden the horizon of students and researchers on the latest FinTech development and applications, the HKUST Big Data Institute and Shenzhen Greater Bay Area Financial Institute co-organized the first joint webinar with the theme of “Factors of Data Production and Cross-Border Finance” on 28 September 2022.

In this webinar, HKUST faculty members and experts from the banking and financial industry were invited to share the latest FinTech development in the banking and financial industry. The speakers also discussed the challenges of data production and cross-border finance development faced the industry as well as examined the possible technology solutions to these challenges.



The webinar began with welcoming remarks by Dr. CHEN Peng, Executive Director of Shenzhen Greater Bay Area Financial Institute. Dr. CHEN introduced the upcoming plans and development direction of its Institute.



Prof. WANG Yang, Vice-President for Institutional Advancement of HKUST delivered an opening speech and shared the latest development of HKUST with the audiences.



In the presentation session, Dr. CHEN first discussed and explored the factors of data production and application of privacy computing.



Prof. CHEN Lei, Chair Professor of Department of Computer Science and Engineering of HKUST and Acting Head of Data Science and Analytics Thrust of HKUST (GZ) talked about big data analysis in financial industry. Prof. CHEN showed a few video demos, showcasing the latest FinTech projects and applications developed by his research team.



Mr. LI Yao, Chief Information Officer of Wuhan Zhongbang Bank (Z-Bank) was invited to share insights on the cornerstone of digital transformation in banking industry.



Last but not the least, Prof. CHEN Kani, Professor of Department of Mathematics and Professor of Department of Industrial Engineering and Decision Analytics of HKUST introduced a number of FinTech initiatives and projects developed under the HKUST Crypto-FinTech Lab.



The webinar was well received by the participants with over 100 students, faculty, researchers, and industry experts attended. Audiences were interested in the topics shared by the invited speakers and raised a number of meaningful questions to exchange with the speakers in the Q&A session.
